Grimm- Is there a point to Nick's girlfriend?

I want to start out by saying that its not that her character bugs me or anything ( which is suprising, since most "filler" characters just thrown in do) its just that Seriously, she does nothing, she's just kinda there. I think they just added her so they had a woman on the cast. But they could have added her just so nick has something to lose, someone who he has to worry about, at least thats the only point I can see to her.
